The Department of Political and International Studies regularly hosts seminars, public dialogues, book launches and other events.
Our Friday seminar programme provides a platform for senior students, colleagues and visitors to share their ideas each Friday from 1-2pm in our Ruth Mompati Seminar Room. These are advertised on our facebook page.
Our annual Teach-In series has been held annually (usually in July) ever since 2002. The Teach-In brings a particular issue of interest and concern in the public sphere to the attention of the University and the wider community. We invite leading public commentators and scholars to share their ideas in relation to the chosen theme.
In addition to our seminars and teach-ins, we regularly hold other events such as public dialogues, public lectures and book launches.
We hold Friday seminars at 13:00 every Friday during term time. Sometimes our seminar speakers also offer a master class for postgraduate students on Friday mornings.
Please visit our facebook page to receive regular notifications of our seminars and other events.
Each year, we are visited by a Nelson Mandela Visiting Professor who teaches a postgraduate course and presents our annual Nelson Mandela Public Lecture. In 2024, Nelson Mandela Visiting Professor Nkiru Nzegwu presented a talk entitled 'In a Season of Anomie: The Brilliant Leadership of Odogwu Aloisea Inyumba.
