Qualifications:
Rene holds a DPhil in Public Administration from Nelson Mandela University.

Dr Oosthuizen coordinates Engaged Research across the University, as well as supervises Comminity Engagement postgraduate researchers. She is also the coordinator of the High School Tutoring programme. 

Dr Oosthuizen was previously employed as Academic Dean of the School of Disaster Management at Stenden South Africa. Before that she was employed as lecturer in the Department of Politics and Governmental studies at Nelson Mandela University as well as in the Department of Public Management at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). Dr. Oosthuizen has also worked as a researcher at the Institute for Sustainable Governance at NMU and at the SABC.
